With the holiday season fast approaching, it’s the time of year when the city of Richmond truly comes alive in the winter glow. At Main Street Homes, we understand the importance of creating cherished memories with your loved ones, especially during the holidays, which is why we’ve listed out a few of our favorite festive events in and around the city that are sure to excite everyone. From dazzling light displays that illuminate the city’s beautiful architecture to charming local celebrations that capture the heart of the community, Richmond has something magical for everyone this holiday season.

Light up the night

Start the holiday season off on the right note and head to The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen for the 25th Annual Tree Lighting. On Saturday, December 2 from 4:30pm until 7:30pm, the air will be filled with holiday music performances, setting the stage for a festive atmosphere, so gather around a toasty bonfire and witness a special visit from none other than Santa himself, who will light the iconic cedar Christmas tree at The Cultural Arts Center entrance.

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden also invites you to immerse yourself in the ultimate holiday extravaganza during the Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights. Running from November 20 to January 7 (Closed on Thanksgiving, Dec. 24 & 25), this annual tradition transforms the garden into a breathtaking display of one million twinkling lights, hand-crafted botanical decorations, and whimsical model trains.

Finally, step into Busch Gardens as it undergoes a magical transformation with over ten million twinkling lights during it’s Christmas Town celebration. Running on select dates from November 10 through January 7, this extraordinary event boasts one of the largest light displays in North America, and visitors will be able to experience the wonder of two all-new light experiences, Polar Pathway—Spectacle of Lights and Celebration of Lights at O’Tannenbaum.

For a decade now, the Tacky Light Run has been a beloved holiday tradition in the Walton Park neighborhood of Chesterfield County. This unique event invites participants to walk, jog or run through the festively adorned streets, showcasing over-the-top, dazzling holiday light displays. As the event marks its 10th anniversary, the community comes together to celebrate the spirit of the season in a truly spectacular way. Whether you’re a spirited spectator or eager to lace up your running shoes and join the fun on December 9 at 6pm, the Tacky Light Run welcomes everyone to partake in the festivities, and The Walton Park neighborhood transforms into a wonderland with the incredible holiday decorations on display.

Just a short drive from Richmond, Kings Dominion Amusement Park undergoes a transformation each year into a winter wonderland during its annual WinterFest. Running on select nights from November 17 to December 31, this celebration captures the essence of the holiday season with a dazzling display of lights, festive decorations and an array of joyful experiences. One of the highlights of WinterFest is the opportunity to enjoy some of your favorite rides against the backdrop of the holiday lights as the park comes alive with the sounds of laughter and the rich scents of seasonal treats, making it a perfect destination for families and friends looking to create lasting memories.
